Have you ever felt that your worth to someone was /is tied directly to what you could do for them? Maybe it was at a job where your boss didn’t so much care about you as much as your production. As soon as the “task” was done they no longer had any need for you. That is a horrible feeling. In churches we talk lots about the mission of God, the things we get to “do” for him. It would be easy for us to think that our worth to God is also tied to our bottom line production; that God’s pursuit and care of us is for the purpose of increasing the return on his investment in us. We would be wrong. As we finish up our story of Jonah this week we will see that God’s priority isn’t tasks he calls us to, but the heart that drives us.
