Church: Mountainside Community Church 

Position: Administrative assistant – Part-time

Preferred Start Date: As soon as possible

Location: Fernie, BC

Closing Date:  September 3, 2024, or until filled. 

The administrative assistant position focuses on administrative support to the pastors, staff, and board at all campuses of Mountainside Church. This position is responsible for the day-to-day support of ministries and church services and occasionally will provide administrative support to sub-committees appointed by the Board.

The administrative assistant will report to the lead pastor or designate.  The position will be based in Fernie but will require some trips to Sparwood and Elkford as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant administrative assistant experience 
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent judgment, multi-tasking, and prioritization abilities 
  • Excellent time management skills enabling work on multiple projects 
  • Excellent computer skills. It would be a definite asset to be proficient in a variety of software programs (possibly including Google Drive, Gmail, ProPresenter, Canva, MS Office Applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent skills in technical writing (e.g. wording announcements), verbal communication (e.g. responding to church inquiries), and presentation or design (e.g. creating power point slides and adapting website)
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and people skills
  • Preference will be given to an active attender at Mountainside Community Church 
  • Office Administration Certificate is an asset

Duties:

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Being a front-line person representing the church
  • Answering emails and phone calls to the church
  • Referrals to other church leaders as appropriate
  • Organizing volunteers (e.g. greeters’ schedule, hospitality events, etc.)
  • Organizing and filing the church’s documents and resources
  • Sending out notifications to the congregation
  • Making changes to the Mountainside website as needed and ensuring it is up to date
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Supporting staff at church events as needed
  • Ordering supplies
  • Creating the Order of Service weekly
  • Booking building rentals and facility schedule
  • Running errands (post-office, bank, etc.)
  • Taking attendance at church services 

The church is currently in a time of transition. As the mission, vision, values, and operational strategy is developed and adopted over the coming months, the duties of this position may change as needed. 

Currently, the position will be part-time (approximately 20 hours/week) with a potential for increase in hours in the future. 

As an employee of Mountainside Community Church, the successful candidate is expected to be an adaptable learner who continues to develop relevant skills as required to support the growing needs of the church and its ministries. 

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check.

Salary: $20-$22 depending on qualifications and experience
